About Us

Dr Sim is a certified Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeon). He received his basic medical education and surgical training in Singapore. After completing his surgical training, Dr Sim joined the Department of Otolaryngology, National University Hospital (NUH) Singapore. While working there, he met Professor James Smith, who was from the Department of Otolaryngology, Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU).

In the 1990s, the NUH Department of Otolaryngology wanted to upgrade its Facial Plastic services, and in preparation for that, Professor Smith arranged for Dr Sim to be attached to the Facial Plastic Surgery section of the OHSU Department of Otolaryngology. The service was staffed by Dr Ted A Cook and Dr Tom D Wang, two prominent Facial Plastic Surgeons.

When Dr Sim returned from Oregon, Professor Smith retired from OHSU and joined NUH. Both of them worked to expand the Facial Plastic services of the department.

One of the projects they undertook resulted in Dr Sim publishing a research paper in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery in 2000 (Vol 2, Apr-June 2000, Pg 113-120) titled “A Comparison of the Aesthetic Facial Proportions of Southern Chinese and White Women”. Credit for the idea and design of this study should go to Professor Smith who provided invaluable guidance to Dr Sim for the project.

The Singapore Medical Council now formally recognises that “Otolaryngologists with Facial Plastic Training” are properly qualified to perform Facial Plastic Surgery.
