Considering a nose job? Known as Rhinoplasty in medical jargon, it is a popular cosmetic surgery to improve one’s appearance or restore breathing through a blocked nose. Rhinoplasty is a delicate “game of millimeters”. Minor changes to the structure can affect both appearance and function. Before considering the longevity of a rhinoplasty, it is important to understand what the procedure involves.
To undergo a Nose Job in Singapore, the legal age to give consent is 21…. But when is the best time and age to get a nose job?
Is there a “Best Age” for a nose job?
For many people, the shape or size of their nose can be a huge source of insecurity. Is there an actual “ideal age” for rhinoplasty? Generally, it is recommended that individuals wait until their facial growth has completed before having a nose job. The commonly quoted numbers are: 16 years old for females and 18 years old for males.
Whilst saying so, there are rare instances where some would need rhinoplasty earlier. Take for example, some children may have cleft lips and palates where the nose appears to be deformed, in this case, a rhinoplasty would be required to fix the problem.
Sportsmen
There are also people who, ideally, should not have their rhinoplasty until much later in their adult life. People who do contact sports, such as professional fighters, should defer their rhinoplasty until they retire from
the sport.
It is not recommended to have a rhinoplasty if the nose has a high probability of getting injured again because repeated rhinoplasty results in more and more scarring. Getting it right the first time is ideal.
Psychological Factor
Then, there is the psychological aspect to consider. If the nose is really badly deformed, correcting it early may help improve the patient’s social life. In such cases, it may be desirable to some, to have a rhinoplasty in their late
teens, in order to aid with this aspect.
On the other hand, we usually strongly advise against getting a deformed nose (e.g. K-Pop inspired Pinocchio nose) or attempting to replicate celebrities’ noses in the late teens. For teenagers wanting cosmetic rhinoplasties, there is hardly any harm waiting till a later age, making an informed decision when the time is right.
